Teachers: ? Dahmen (leader of Utrecht Orchestra, Joseph Joachim (1871-4) Henri Vieuxtemps (E. van der Straeten says he was at the Brussels Conservatoire after studying with Joachim).

Family: father oboist in the Utrecht Orchestra. Son, the pianist Egon Petri (1881-1962)

Associates: Joachim (he performed with him in London in 1877), Raff, Hanus Wihan, August Manns, Hans Sitt, Ferruccio Busoni (dedicatee of Busoni's Second String Quartet and of his Violin Concerto, of which he gave the first performance with the Berlin Philharmonic, the composer conducting, in 1897).

Professional appointments: Concertmaster, Sonderhausen (1877-81), Concertmaster, Hanover (1881-2), and in Leipzig (1882-9) and Dresden (1889-1914), where he also taught at the conservatory.

Chamber Ensembles: Quartets in Leipzig, with Bolland, Thümer and Klengel (later A. Schröder), and in Dresden, with Erdman Warwas, Alfred Spitzner and Georg Wille. Piano Trio in Dresden with Margerethe Stern and Ferdinand von Liliencron.

Pupils: Egon Petri (who played for a while in Henri's quartet). [more to follow]
