Family: Léonard's wife, the singer Antonia Sitcher de Mendi, was the cousin of Maria Malibran and Pauline Viardot.

Professional appointments: Violin professor, Brussels Conservatoire, 1852-66. From 1866 taught in Paris, apart from a brief interval at the time of the war in 1870.
