Professional appointments: Concertmaster, Nationaltheater, Mannheim (1855), Leader, Philharmonic Society, London (1860)

Founded Florentine Quartet in 1866 (full-time string quartet, under the patronage of Abramo Basevi, the founder of the Societá del Quartetto). Other members: Enrico Masi (violin 2), Luigi Chiostri (viola), and Friedrich Hilpert (cello). After 1875 the cellist was Louis Spitzer-Hegyesi.
