Lambert Massart

b. Liège, 19.7.1811
d. Paris, 13.2.1892

Teachers: Ambroise Delaveux (in Liège, up to 1822); Rodolph Kreuzter (privately, in Paris, from 1822 - as a non-Frenchman, Massart was not allowed to enter the Conservatoire). In 1829 he finally became a pupil at the Conservatoire, studying composition with P. J. Zimmermann, counterpoint and fugue with Fétis.

Family: Massart's wife was the pianist Louise Agiaé Masson, with whom he performed duo sonatas.

Associates: Liszt (with whom he performed Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata, the outer movements very fast, according to Berlioz), Thalberg, Christian Urhan, the harpist Théodore Labarre.

Professional appointments: Professor at Paris Conservatoire 1843-90.

Pupils: Isidor Lotto, Henryk Wieniawski, Martin Marsick, Fritz Kreisler, Camilla Urso, Teresina Tua, Charles Martin Loeffler.
