David's slur, indicating an up-bow staccato in the upper half of the bow, does not agree with his 1st violin part at this point, which has the same figuration a 3rd higher. The discrepancy is surely unintentional; he would presumably have wanted the 2nd violinist to match the 1st's bowstroke. It shows, however, a possible alternative conception of this passage.

Here and 3 bars later the 2nd violinist would presumably have been expected to hook the first d# into the down bow to match the 1st violin bowing here. This and a number of other passages in the 2nd violin part indicate that although David aligned some of the bowing with that in the 1st violin part, from which he evidently played, the parts were never made to agree in details of bowing. We may therefore presume either that the alert 2nd violinist adapted the part in performance to align with the 1st violin but did not mark in the necessary changes, or that the two players failed to agree!
