The fingering with repeated 4th fingers here and in the next bar is printed in the 1st edition. David's notation of 4/1 is an instruction to use the hand as if it were playing octaves, presumably for firmness. According to Baillot's copy (with fingering taken from the parts belonging to Prince Galitzin) Schuppanzigh seems to have used a different fingering.
