Translation: The embellishments, bowings and performance markings are precisely those that the composer used to use in performing this piece and I thank my friend Eduard Rietz, who died in Berlin, one of Rode's most prominent pupils. In public performance the composer changed the end in many ways and I have tried to show by means of small notes how this can be effected, but if one wishes to use this or a similar alternative one must mark a Fermate in the penultimate bar of the accompanying parts and put ritardando in the following one.
