A rare example of Grützmacher explicitly marking a portamento in any of the Beethoven sonatas (see the sonata op. 69, first movement), although a frequently used marking elsewhere, especially in his edition of the Mendelssohn cello sonatas. Con grandezza is also a favoured mark of expression in his editions, frequently associated by him with the allemande movements from the Bach cello suites. Note that the physical scope for portamento here is limited since the 4th finger is specified. His f marking is not in the Artaria edition or the Gesamtausgabe, and is not in 7986.
