Arcangelo Corelli » Violin Sonata 'Follia' » Léonard, Hubert; Marteau, Henri - Schott

This edition includes both a solo violin part and a version with accompaniment for a second violin.

Léonard's arrangement, first published in 1877, is really a fantasia on Corelli's composition; it contains only variations 1, 2, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 18, 10, 15, and 20 (in that order), followed by a lengthy virtuoso cadenza (71 bars) and final statement of the theme.

Marteau's edition claims to have been made from Léonard's original manuscript.

The statement, under the title of the edition, that the theme came from Farinelli ignores the fact that the famous castrato was only 10 years old when Corelli died and that Corelli's Op. 5 was published before Farinelli was born! Other sources attribute the melody to a composer named Broschi, an uncle of Farinelli.
