This edition of Beethoven's String Trios was replaced by a re-engraved edition with the plate number 8942 in about 1903. That edition still named Ferdinand David as editor, although a significant number of the performance markings had been changed. Since David had died thirty years earlier, these changes were clearly not his. They may simply represent the personal preferences of the reviser, but they may also suggest changing technical and aesthetic attitudes. Places where differences occur have been annotated in the scans.
