Théophile Laforge (1863-1918) Laforge studied violin with Baillot's pupil and son-in-law Eugene Sauzey at the Paris Conservatoire where he won first prize in 1886. From 1883, he worked as a violinist at the Paris Operabecoming principal violist in 1887. From 1887 he was also a viola soloist with the orchestra of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire  He was appointed the first professor of viola at the Conservatoire In 1894 and retained this position until l his death in 1918.
