Born Verviers (Belgium) in 1871, died in Brussels in 1947, Crickbook was the principle disciple of Eugene Ysaÿe and for several years played second violin to Ysaÿe in the Ysaÿe Quartet. From 1897 he led his own quartet with Pablo Casals as cellist. After a period in Barcelona, he became a professor at Liège Conservatoire and subsequently at Brussels Conservatoire. He edited numerous 18th- and 19th-century violin concertos and published an important violin method.
