b. Totis, Hungary, 14.10.1830 d. Stuttgart, 23.1. 1912 

Teachers: Gustav Ellinger, Ridley Kohne (Budapest), Joseph Boehm  (Vienna). In Vienna, studied composition with Gottfried Preyer. In 1844 he visited Paris, where he studied at the Conservatoire and appeared in concerts. 

Associates: Lipinski, Liszt, Raff, Wagner, Hans von Bülow, Cossmann, Friedrich Grützmacher, Max Seifriz (with whom he collaborated on his Violinschule). 

Professional appointments: Solo violin, subsequently conductor, at the German Theatre, Budapest (1846). Concertmaster in Weimar (1853). Court Concertmaster, Stuttgart (1861). Also in 1861 - teacher at Conservatoire in Stuttgart, and later Professor there.
