Moritz Hauptmann

1792-1868. Violinist in Spohr's orchestra at Kassel; taught music theory to Ferdinand David; pupils also included Joseph Joachim and Bernhard Cossmann. Recommended by Mendelssohn to the post of Kantor and Musikdirector of the Thomasschule (Leipzig); professor of counterpoint and composition at the Leipzig Conservatorium.
