Louis Spohr

A selection of Spohr's violin concertos edited by Ferdinand David appeared in three series, all published by Peters. The first series was published in 1864, with title pages bearing the claim 'nouvelle édition revuee et corrigée strictement d'après les intentions de l'auteur' [title page of no. 11 in this series ]. This comprised concertos nos. 2, 6, 7,8, and 11. This series was re-issued by Peters c. 1876, this time with a German title page, as 'Berühmte Violin-Concerte'.  The third series, published c.1878-80, edited by David and with piano accompaniments by Friedrich Hermann, carried the title page claim 'nach der Tradition des Componisten' (according to the tradition of the composer). This series comprised the same concerti with the addition of no. 9 [title page of no. 7 in this series].
