Apple iPhone sales have witnessed their biggest sales drop on record, with revenue from the model declining by 17% over the past 2 years.

The tech giant are competiting against cheaper rivals like Huawei in the Chinese market, Apple warned of slowing in sales earlier this year. However, Apple chief executive Tim Cook said sales were stronger towards the end of March, including in China where it cut iPhone prices to boost demand.

Higher demand for wearables like the Apple Watch has also attributed to the slump in iPhone sales, where Apple are attempting to shift its reliance on the iPhone towards rise of Apple TV and Apple Music are leading the tech space and taking on more established streaming and music providers like Netflix and Spotify.

Service revenue rose to $11.4 billion from $9.8bn in the same quarter last year. Apple are attempting to stabalise their sales of the iPhone model, despite consumers being more inclined to switch to new smart phone devices emerging on the market, especially in Asia/

Yoram Wurmser, Principle Analyist at eMarketer, said, ''Long term growth of the company still depends directly and indirectly on iPhone sales''.
