Last week I uploaded a podcast on abortion and it was very clear from the beginning that there were a number of different opinions. With it being such a sensitive topic I was slightly worried that the content could cause offense  to the audience, however one listener said, “It’s interesting to hear lots of different opinions! And you’ve done it so tastefully. I really enjoyed it”. I really appreciated this comment because I really enjoy discussing such big topics to get more knowledge of what other people think, however it can be hard to make sure that it doesn’t offend or upset anyone who views it because that’s never my intention. Especially with having different guests and voices on the podcast, you never know what they are going to say so it’s hard to stay in control of that. 
I was pleasantly surprised by the respect that the listeners had for one another and their opinions. They were having adult discussions that didn’t end in arguments and name calling, which was a risk with this episode.
At first it was actually quite hard to get a response, which did surprise me slightly, but I think it’s because people were scared to share their thoughts on the topic however once one person commented others followed. I think people have a lot to say on controversial issues but can sometimes just be too scared to speak up, and the main aim for my podcast was to open up conversations on taboo subjects and I think it’s achieved its goal. I wanted to give the audience a little nudge to open up and be real with one another, to open up healthy discussions and inform the listeners.
Most of the comments tended to be against the idea of aborton being made illegal, but this was no surprise to me. However, with this being said, there were a couple of comments for the notion. One said “How can you justify killing a baby? It’s just wrong.”. Which then someone replied to and they ended up having a lovely conversation about their own experiences and thoughts and the way the conversation blossomed was really nice to see. To think that that important discussion happened because of something I posted is such a sweet thought.
Overall,  I do think my podcast was successful in helping people open up and informing the viewers.
