Personal protective equipment flown in from Turkey, “not good enough” for use in the UK

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the government promoted how they were planning to bring in 400-thousand protective gowns for workers on the front line.

These gowns would be flown in from Turkey.

The equipment was brought in by RAF planes after a delay had occurred but now, they cannot be used by the NHS here in the UK.

This is due to the protective gear being deemed as “not good enough”, which a senior minister has since admitted.

The Secretary of Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis says its “absolutely right” that the items were checked before considered for use.

He went on to explain that he is: “pleased that health service experts and professionals are assessing equipment enough and are only using equipment that they feel is of a good enough standard” and they “want to work to make sure we’re able to supply that equipment to them”.
