Covid19: Face masks - Practical or Not?

The Government’s chief scientific adviser suggests that it may be practical to wear masks when it is not possible to socially distance.

The UK has now been in lockdown for two months and has begun the process of lifting restrictions. This means that there are more people about and keeping the required two metre gap is becoming more difficult.

Sir Patrick Vallance says, it is evident that wearing face masks reduces the spread of the ‘Covid19’ and has told the Commons Health Committee that the risk of getting the Coronavirus at ‘one metre is about 10 to 30 times higher than at two metres.’

With the continuing threat of the Coronavirus, he acknowledged that masks only have a 'marginal but positive' impact in preventing the infection.

However, British advice and the world health organisation have stated that they do not recommend wearing facemasks in public and advise keeping a two metre distance, when coming into close contact with people.

Tweet: Sir Patrick Vallance said "Halving the 2 metre social distance will greatly increase the transmission of COVID19 and maybe facemasks could help in situations where 2 metres is impossible to maintain" - @WHO does NOT agree.and the 2 metre distance should be adhered to. #COVID19 #lockdown #socialdistancing #facemasks
