Pursuit Of Happiness (Response)

Last week I released a 5-minute podcast onto Media Hud Planet radio and Twitter. The podcast was about my journey with mental health. I also gave my ideas on how people can deal with it.

Over the past week the podcast has gotten responses. The first response was from Thomas Warren. They said that “I've been under way more anxiety over my studies and day to day life this year, it's been difficult, but hopefully it'll get better. I hope it'll get better. Support and communication helps so much.” They agreed with me when I said that communication is an important thing when it comes to dealing with your mental health. A study by the World Health Organization, found that between 30 and 80 percent of people with mental health issues don’t seek treatment. This is a big number of people that don’t do anything. A study also found that 40% of men don’t talk about it at all. That’s 1,585,237,944.8 billion men that don’t talk about their mental health.

Joe Loughran was the next person to comment. He said “Great podcast, I think it would be great if university made counselling a lot easier to get” I replied to this by asking how Universities could make it easier for him. He replied by saying. ‘They could have more counsellors, more leaflets handed out on campus, and just generally spreading more awareness that counselling is an option for students who are feeling down” This is an interesting point. In my podcast I stated that universities have on campus help. But judging but this it seems that they don’t do much to push the idea of talking to someone. I replied to this by asking if they did push it more, would it encourage him to seek help if he needed it. “Yea I think so, because I think counselling has quite a bad stigma, especially amongst men, so more awareness of what it is and how it can help would certainly encourage me” Which was also a very interesting point.

Even though the podcast was posted on Twitter no one replied to the tweet. So, overall the responses were good. People seemed to be experiencing the same things and also people are starting to become educated on the topic of metal health.
