DRIVING LESSONS AND TESTS HAVE RESUMED THIS MONTH

Driving lessons began again on the 12th of April while driving tests are expected to begin later this month on the 22nd of April in England.

Learner drivers in England have not been able to take lessons or book any tests since the start of the third lockdown in January, but they have been allowed to practice with members of their family or their support bubble.
On the 22nd of February 2021, Boris Johnson announced the four-step roadmap out of lockdown. Driving tests and lessons started from the 12th of April which is under the second step of the roadmap out of lockdown.
However, despite being able to take tests, the waiting time for most driving test centres are 4 months and up to 8 months for others. This means a lot of people won’t be able to take their tests until the start of 2022.

Emmanuel Akano, a learner driver has had to cancel his test four times due to the lockdowns. He said “My last test was booked in January but I had to cancel because the third national lockdown was announced the day after”
Following the pandemic's restriction on lessons and tests, the number of people who passed their driving test in the last year is said to have fallen to the lowest in several years.
Over 49,000 theory test certificates expired in 2020 which is worth over £1.1 million.
Emmanuel concluded by saying “I am looking forward to take my test at the end of April”
