Manchester Road Co-Op Cordoned Off By Police After Knife Incident.

Just after 6 am this morning, an armed intruder wielding a knife entered the premises of the Co-Op petrol station, on Manchester Road, Cowersly.
Immediately after the incident, police arrived at the scene to place tape around the building, shutting off the store to the public.
Thankfully, no one at the location was harmed. A spokesperson for the Co-Op claimed: “colleagues were left feeling very shaken and are being fully supported”.
Images from the scene simply show a police car guarding the front door of the building, with uniformed officers patrolling the scene.
A crime scene investigation van was also spotted on the scene.
As of 1pm this afternoon, officials confirmed that the store has once again reopened its doors to continue serving the public, but the police are currently appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward.
The unfortunate event follows Honsley’s petrol stations new re opening, after a major programme of works and improvements. On Thursday 9th December, the store re-opened, after undergoing four months of improvements, costing £1.5 million.
Among the improvements are new tanks, pumps, canopy and forecourt, as well as an extensive refurbishment to the 2,550 square foot food store.
Regarding the refurbishment, Alison Gannon, said: “We have had a great response, and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to carry out such a significant investment to transform the food store and filling station”.
