Boris Johnson 'Plan B'

The NHS website has crashed after a surge of requests for booster vaccine bookings following Boris Johnsons most recent announcement. The announcement describes how booster vaccines will be offered to anyone aged 18 or over in the upcoming week.
A new target has been created as boosters for all adults who want one are set to be given by the new year. This date has been pushed forward by a month in alignment with the introduction of ‘Plan B’.

People aged 30 and over are already able to book their booster appointment online, whilst anyone aged 18 or over will be able to book from Wednesday. Currently, there are queues of over 12000 people online waiting to book their booster.

Boris Johnson has said “I’m afraid we’re now facing an emergency in our battle with the new variant Omicron”. On Monday, it was announced that 10 people were currently in hospital with Omicron, with one official death confirmed.

Data has suggested that getting a third vaccination or ‘booster’ will give an individual a 70% to 75% protection against infection related to the Omicron variant.

For the vulnerable and those ‘shielding’ the third dose of the vaccine will complete their course, with a fourth jab being considered as their booster.
