Omicron cases confirmed and suspected within West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire confirms new cases of Omicron variant with, 3 in Leeds, 3 in   Sheffield and 1 in Bradford, with 3 suspected cases in Kirklees, bringing the total number of confirmed Omicron cases in the UK to 817.

University of Huddersfield was one of the places with the highest Covid-19 cases last week as it recorded 23 cases alongside of Aspley. However, there are yet no omicron cases recoded within Huddersfield university and to combat the rise, the university has implemented various procedures as one of the student union representatives, Chloe Crawther mentioned
“Whoever comes into the university whether it be student, staff, or visitor has to wear a face covering unless exempt”
“We advise people to take two lateral-flow test every week, and when meeting with other, try and do it outside and make sure there is an air flow”
Omicron cases are rising significantly in the UK, and the variant is expected to become the dominant strain in the UK by mid-December therefore, Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman recently stated that our priority must be to stop the NHS being overwhelmed and let’s get everyone jabbed and everyone boosted, and follow the government guidelines to make sure Huddersfield is one of the most prevented town.
