Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine begin

The foreign ministries of both Russia and Ukraine have confirmed that peace talks between the two countries have begun.

The talks were arranged after Russia’s invasion resulted in the deaths and casualties of multiple Ukrainian civilians. According to Ukraine’s health ministry, the civilian death toll has increased to 352 people and a further 1684 people have been wounded. Over 422,000 citizens have fled Ukraine to escape the attacks.
Ukraine have asked for a ceasefire ahead of talks with Russia regarding the ongoing invasion; whilst Russia is interested in coming to an agreement that is in the interest of both sides, according to Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky.

Natalie Balasynovych, the mayor of Vasilkiv, was asked what she would like to see at the peace talk, she stated “We would like to see compromise but not capitulation. Maybe neutral status for Ukraine, if it will stop them shooting now. Because to live like this is not possible… Our children will have serious trauma, and people are dreaming of peace already”.

The talks began at 9AM this morning in GMT or 12pm local time and are currently ongoing. Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club and Russian politician, has been requested to help negotiate an end to the conflict.
