Award winning food bank Opens its doors in Yorkshire

Award winning food bank comes to Yorkshire
Renowned food bank "the bread-and-butter thing" is set to open its latest bank in Dewsbury.
TBBT aims to serve affordable and nutritious food to its members, as well as providing financial, employment and health advice. The latest branch of the service will partner with local supermarkets, factories and farms, in order to redistribute its surplus food.
Members can long forward to receiving £35 worth of healthy foodstuff for the low cost of £7.50. The food bank will also provide extensive benefit to the wider community, reducing environmental effects, thus supporting the local area.
Mark Game, chief executive told Kirklees council that “The Bread-and-Butter Thing is about creating routes out of poverty and creating resilient communities. Our members tell us that over 80% of them have previously had to skip meals to feed their families. He continues “We also build bespoke eco-systems of support for each hub, bringing in experts to offer help and advice in everything from housing to health, ensuring that we are maximising people’s opportunities locally. And the icing on the cake is that we save tonnes of surplus edible food from going to waste.”
With four additional hubs across Kirklees planned for 2022, it seems that the bread-and-butter thing will be a welcome addition to the community.
