Crohn's Disease, it's just gut instinct

Audio:

This podcast (Crohn's Disease, it's just gut instinct) looks at how Crohn’s Disease is dismissed as an invisible illness and the stigma around it. My battle is internal, this podcast promotes awareness of Crohn’s and encourages people to be more mindful of people’s situations.

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at 18 years old after having symptoms throughout my life. Crohn’s can be a very lonely illness, one that is incredibly misunderstood from outsiders. I wanted to look at what it’s like living with a chronic illness (Crohn’s) from an inside perspective, and discuss how it affects people on a daily basis, and how people don’t see what you endure behind closed doors; even though you look fine from the outside. I feel passionate about this subject because I feel that people have a very narrow-minded view as to what Crohn’s is and I wanted to bring light to invisible illnesses through this podcast and make people think about how people go through more than meets the eye past physical appearance.

What are your thoughts after listening? Do you feel more educated on the complexities of the illness and the struggles people face with Crohn's Disease?

Thought this was really informative! My godfather suffers greatly from crohn’s And has his whole life so it was really great hearing somebody else’s experiences! Thought it was really clever to add in the boy who had his rejected card as I’m a cadet for a disabled parent and know how hard doing general life tasks can be. Well done!!!

Really thought provoking Podcast. It encourages people to be more mindful of peoples situations. Definitely learnt a lot about Crohn’s disease from this! It seems you have given a great insight to what life is like living with IBD, I can see why the illnesses is overlooked by many.

Great Podcast Olivia, you rarely see coverage of Crohn’s disease in the media. This podcast opens up a dialogue for people to talk about the illness and understand the severity of Crohn’s, as it think it can be overlooked

I thought this was a great podcast and it really raises awareness of Crohn's disease as it doesn't get enough recognition, just because you look fine doesn't always mean there isnt more going on inside.

People like yourself and Liam shouldn’t feel like you can’t use your Can’t Wait card. Opening a dialogue to the topic should help end the stigma that surrounds the illness. As well as your friends and family misunderstanding your illness, I can only imagine explaining it to employers is all the more frustrating
