Extinction Rebellion-Time Is Running Out

A conversation with local Huddersifled local activist "Swallow". We sat down to discuss the vital importance of getting your voice heard, protecting the environemnt and what we as citizens can do to  help. In our discussion, Swallow speaks out agaisnt "Syngenta", a local supplier of very harmful chemicals, that have been banned in  the EU. Jeremy Corbyn pledges the U.K declare a climate change emergency

Labour leader, Jerermy Corbyn is calling for a national climate change emergency to be declared at a paralimentary debate.

The debate comes after a series of protests by environmental activists, Extinction Rebellion. Labour is also calling on the government to commit to achieving net zero emissions before 2050.

There is increase concern over climate change and the future of our planet, with many towns ans cities wanting to be carbon-neutral and elimate the production of fossil fuels by 2030. People are becoming more mindful of their ways and are adopting ways of which they can combat climate change and reduce their carbon footprint. 

The Welsh and Scottish governments have both declared a climate emergency, along with dozens of towns and cities, including Manchester and London.

The UK is currently committed to reducing carbon emissions by 80% compared to 1990 levels by 2050.

Labour are calling on the government to set urgent targets for zero emissions, renewable energy and low carbon technology.

Expansion of London Heathrow to go ahead

Environmental campaigners have lost a High Court challenge against the governments decision to approve plans for a controversial third runway. 

Villages like Harmondsworth and Sipson will be bulldozed to make way for the new £14 billion plan. Construction could begin in 2021, with a third runway being operational by 2026. Creating hundreds of new jobs in Hillingdon.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: "The expansion of Heathrow is vital and will provide a massive economic boost to businesses and communities across the length and breadth of Britain, all at no cost to the taxpayer and within our environmental obligations.

Residents are concerned over increased conjestion and pollution in the area. They argued that the governments national policy statement failed to fully account air quality and climate change when agreeing plans for the proposed third runway; but the judges ruled their plans were lawful.

The campaigners said the runway would effectively create a ''new airport'', having a severe impact on Londoners..

Caroline Russell, resident of West Drayton, a town north of Heathrow says how a third runway will pollution and conjestion in the area.
